Frank Loobeek, Business Development Manager at Mifa Aluminium bv. I am working at Mifa for 25 years and have experienced that the possibilities of precision extrusion are quite unfamiliar. Many engineers / designers / purchaser don’t know the possibilities and therefore do not think in the way of (precision) extrusion. It is really satisfying to tell and show these people another way of thinking and to create an optimal product together, which even can help in reducing the CO2 footprint. With my presentation I will give you a short insight in our world of precision extrusion.

As Additive Manufacturing Engineer, Rob is responsible for the development, production and validation of parts produced via Additive Manufacturing (3D Metal Printing) at KMWE in Eindhoven, since 2015.
Among various additive manufacturing (AM) techniques, Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) stands out as a leading technology, enabling the production of intricate metal parts layer by layer. However, LPBF is not without its challenges, with thermal deformations being a key concern. Fontys University of Applied Sciences has leveraged Siemens NX Additive Manufacturing for digital simulations to predict and address these thermal deformations in LPBF, thus enhancing precision and part quality. Importantly, ongoing developments and refinements in software and techniques emphasize the dynamic nature of this field, as software vendors continually strive to optimize LPBF technology for improved outcomes.

Metal printing is increasingly being used as a supplement to, for example, machining, as a 'complementary' production technique. It offers opportunities, but also has limitations. Three universities of applied sciences work together with universities, tech companies and other organizations to make the industry more profitable, with a focus on the production chain. . Initiator Rein van der Mast, research lead 3D Printing in Metals at Fontys, will inform you about this.

I graduated in an internship at Nikhef and after I started working there 4 years ago, I have exclusively worked on ET-Pathfinder, seeing it grow from concept, to mechanical drawings, to industry orders, and now to installation, which is currently ongoing and probably will remain ongoing for the next few years. ET-Pathfinder is foreseen as a technological case study and R&D test lab for ET (Einstein Telescope) and therefore houses some of the same exciting systems and challenges. From this I have some experience with UHV and UHV related topics such as design and cleanliness, as well as basic knowledge of our unique passive dampening systems.
